The Quote Specialist (ABN 59 381 461 161) runs this website to help Australian households and property owners get quotes from local trade and home-service providers, such as solar and battery installers, pest control technicians, air conditioning and heating (HVAC) technicians, plumbers, electricians and roofers. The services covered change over time, and this policy applies to every quote page on this site, including ones added later.

The Quote Specialist is a lead-generation and referral service. It does not carry out any of the work, and it is not a licensed contractor in any trade. The provider who quotes for you is an independent business and is responsible for its own work, quotes and licences.

This policy explains what personal information is collected through this site, why it is collected, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. The Quote Specialist handles personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

What is collected

When you request a quote, the following is collected:

  • Contact details: your name, phone number and email address.
  • Location: your postcode or suburb, and for some services your property address.
  • Details of the job: whatever the quote form for that service asks, so a provider can quote accurately. Examples: for pest control, the pest, how urgent it is and your property type; for solar and battery, your roof, energy use and power bill; for air conditioning, heating, plumbing, electrical or roofing, the type of work, the size of the job and your timeframe.
  • Anything you add in an optional message field.
  • Technical information collected automatically, such as your IP address, browser and device type, and how you arrived at the site (for example, from a search result or an ad).

Only the information needed to arrange your quote is requested. Optional fields are marked.

How the information is used

  • To arrange your quote: the request is checked against the services and areas covered, then passed to a provider who does that work in your area.
  • To contact you about your request by phone, SMS or email.
  • To run, secure and improve this website, and to understand which ads and pages lead to quote requests.
  • To meet legal obligations.

Who the information is shared with

  • The provider who quotes for you. This is the core of the service. Your request is passed to a provider who does the type of work you asked about in your area. Unless the quote page you use says otherwise before you submit, your request goes to one provider only. They use your details to contact you and prepare your quote. The provider pays The Quote Specialist when a request is passed on. You never pay anything.
  • Service providers. Shopify hosts this site and receives form submissions. Third parties are also used for email, and may be used for analytics and advertising measurement. They handle information on The Quote Specialist's behalf and only for that purpose.
  • Where the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of any person.

The Quote Specialist does not sell your details to data brokers or marketing lists, and does not pass them to anyone else for their own marketing.

Contact about your request

By submitting a quote request, you agree to be contacted about that request by The Quote Specialist and by the provider it is passed to, by phone, SMS and email. No marketing unrelated to your request is sent. You can ask for contact to stop at any time using the details below. If a provider has already received your request, they will be asked to stop as well.

Cookies and tracking

This site uses cookies and similar technologies to operate, to understand how visitors use it, and to measure which ads lead to quote requests. You can control cookies in your browser settings.

Storage, security and retention

The Quote Specialist takes reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, and keeps it only as long as it is needed for the purposes above or as the law requires, then deletes or de-identifies it.

Overseas storage

Shopify and some service providers may store or process information outside Australia, for example in Canada and the United States. Where that happens, The Quote Specialist takes reasonable steps to make sure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Access, correction and complaints

You can ask to see or correct the personal information held about you, or ask for it to be deleted, unless the law requires it to be kept. To make a complaint, contact The Quote Specialist first; a response is given within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with that response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Children

This site is for adults arranging quotes for their own home or property. Information is not knowingly collected from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated, for example when a new service is added. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
